Meet Coordinator: The
overseer who makes sure all jobs are filled and that things run as smoothly
as possible. Must be willing to approach people at the meet to help fill
jobs at the last minute. This would be a person who knows many of the faces
around the pool. The Meet Coordinator
needs to be familiar with all the positions, the potential problems, and
be able to draft helpers and give rapid on-the-job training. Timers/Backup Timer: Using a stopwatch provided by the team, the timer starts the watch using the light or the sound of the starting machine as the starting signal, and stops the watch when any part of a swimmer's body touches any part of the wall. There is a timer from each team working each lane. The person with the clipboard is the Head Lane Timer. Before each race make sure that the right swimmer is lined up. One timer will operate a button and a stopwatch, while the other timer will operate a stop watch and writes the watch time on the clipboard. The stop button should be pressed only at the end of each race when any part of a swimmer's body touches any part of the wall. The backup timer starts the watch at the beginning of the race and helps any timer whose stopwatch didn’t start correctly. By raising your hand you will let the backup timer know that he is needed. Brief training before the meet starts is all that is required for the timer jobs. We couldn't run swim meets without timers - your help is essential and appreciated - thank you!! Bullpen and arm writers: The bullpen is a specially designated area where swimmers sit when the event that they are swimming in is approaching (usually 5-6 races ahead of time). Two parent volunteers are needed to organize swimmers during the meet (especially the younger/new swimmers). It is helpful to write swimmer's race and heat number on their hand, with sharpie pan, as a reminder. Scorers: Two scorers work the entire meet. This job requires attention to detail, organization, and ability to work with numbers. Training is required. Our scorer is Kelley Ostrander, and a backup is Jovan Bebic. We need more volunteers, so If you are interested in training please contact Dan. Result Runner: Every two heats collects papers from each of the eight lanes. Could be performed by older siblings. Concession Stand: Sells concessions at the meets. Two people per half are needed, so that you can take a break and watch your swimmer when he/she is up for an event. |
