Below is some information regarding the NYS YMCA State
Championship Meet:
Dates:
March 12-14, 2010
University Of Buffalo, Amherst
Campus
Attendance/Eligibility:
If you are receiving this email, your swimmer is eligible
for the meet. If you do not plan to attend the meet, please reply to me as soon
as possible.
Entries:
I will need your entries by Saturday, 2/27/10. Please send
them via email with the subject line “State Championship Entries”.
Swimmers may swim up to 3 individual events in which they have qualified. I
will be providing suggestions and guidance for swimmers with more than 3 event
possibilities. If you have not yet had a chance to speak to me regarding
entries and have questions, please just shoot me an email. I will send out
entries for your verification Sunday night.
Relays:
This has recently become the worst part of my job. At the
state meet, we are only allowed to enter one relay per age/gender group. With
all of our state qualifiers this season, we have some age/gender groups with as
many as 8 or 9 qualifiers. I would like nothing more than to have all of our
swimmers be able to compete in the relay events, but that simply is not a
possibility. The only truly equitable way, and the method that is in the best
interest of the team, to determine who swims is to place the fastest 4 swimmers
in each relay. I will list 8 swimmers on our entries (4 as alternates), but
will let everyone know my intentions with each relay by Saturday. I know we are
going to have some disappointed swimmers… The 11 & Up relays are swam
during finals on Saturday evening and prelims Sunday morning.
Meet Format:
10 & Under:
8 & under and 9-10 events will be held on Saturday and
Sunday afternoons. They will be swam as timed finals, which means the meet is
seeded based on entry times and that swimmers have one shot at their events.
For a list of what events are on which days, you can refer to your State Champs
Packets.
11 & Up:
11-12, 13-14 and 15-18 events are swam as preliminaries and
finals. The prelims are held Friday night and Saturday and Sunday mornings. The
fastest 16 swimmers from the morning prelims move on to the evening finals, the
top 8 swim in the championship (“A”) final and the 9th-16th
fastest from prelims swim in the consolation (“B”) final. Swimmers
in the championship final can finish as high as 1st and no lower
than 8th. Swimmers in the consolation final can finish no higher
than 9th or lower than 16th.
Start Times/Meet Schedule:
Your packets contain a complete list of warm up times for
each session.
Miscellaneous:
As with our NCL Championship, parents are not permitted on
the pool deck at this meet.
Refer to your State Champs Packet for prices on admission to
the meet, program prices, etc..
If you did not get a packet, they are available in the
family folders on the pool deck.
I never know if I should use “swam” or “swum”,
so excuse any grammatical errors in the above email…
I am excited to have such a large group attending the meet this
year. I hope we can keep the momentum from our North Country League
Championship meet rolling in Buffalo!
Please let me know if you have any questions,
Coach Dan
